Gerber & Startupland, Farquhar & SafetyCulture, ACMA’s tech trends and Startup Weekend

Here’s what’s what in the week that was!

Anna Gerber left UQ to join iLab-based Hypermancer. The “stealth-mode” startup specialises in social media analytics, and recently gained seed-stage funding from Latvia-based Imprimatur Capital.

Atlassian founder Scott Farquhar lead a $2.1M investment round in workplace health and safety company SafetyCulture. The Townsville- based company also announced a Sydney office, and plans for an accident investigation and reporting product.

A new report from the Australian Communications and Media Authority has identifiedSix emerging trends in media & communications“.  It’s must-read for anyone tracking media and/or communications disruptors, but you can find a more palatable overview at the ACMA blog.

After 54 hours of organising, cramming, and pitching, the first Startup Weekend Queensland concluded last night! The events ran in Cairns, Townsville, and Gold Coast, and were won by teams “ShareMatey”, “Tutor in the Cloud” and “Datanow”, respectively.
